Explanation of the request:

This project would fund the remainder of the Strand Theatre and hardware store renovations in Atmore, Alabama, a small, rural down in desperate need of investment in its downtown facilities and residents. Revitalizing the Strand Theatre is the first step in spurring economic development in downtown Atmore. Additionally, renovation of the hardware store into a youth center for dance, art, painting classes and more and WIFI-equipped classrooms will help further rebuild a town that has been challenged by lack of community spaces and storefront amenities. This project is a crucial part of the Atmore's efforts to make the community a more livable place by providing access to health and social services, opportunities for community building and advocacy, and an abundance of natural and cultural points of interest.

This project will repair the breach on Little Dauphin Island caused by the 2020 hurricane season. The breach not only endangers the island’s residents and ecosystem but threatens the long-term stability of the ecotourism industry that makes south Alabama thrive.

Explanation of the request:

This funding would be used to train police officers and other first responders in the first district to respond to mental health calls as part of their regular patrol duties. The University of South Alabama (USA) trains police officers and other first responders to respond to mental health calls as part of their regular patrol duties. Rather than relying on use of force, the USA model is a highly effective, non-threatening method for ensuring appropriate services without draining the community of resources.

Explanation of the request:

This funding would allow for the acquisition and installation of current meters and a visibility station at the Port of Mobile. These sensors improve both recreational and commercial navigation safety, provide real time data for piloting efficient, commercial vessel transits in and out of the seaport, provide real time data for commercial vessel loading requirements to maximize shipper capacity and cost efficiencies, and provide real time meteorological data for local and national weather forecasting and warning systems used by commercial and recreational waterway users.

This project would update and expand Fairground Road at the intersection of Highway 59 to alleviate congestion next to Robertsdale High School. The expansion would improve traffic near Robertsdale High School; improve access to Baldwin County Coliseum, a designated FEMA shelter; and reduce traffic during normal traffic flow patterns.

This project would provide funding for the repaving of several roads within the Town of Millry to improve both traffic and pedestrian safety.

This project would fund the purchase and installation of security cameras for the Monroeville Police Department to assist with solving crimes and deterring criminal activity. Additionally, the funding would be used to train officers for best practices with the new security cameras.

Explanation of the request:
The project request would contribute to the cost of construction and the innovative design and programming of the Africatown Welcome Center. The purpose of the Africatown Welcome Center is to provide the public with a central location for a heritage tourism program, to provide the Africatown community with a location to enhance the preservation of the community, and to promote the Africatown community as an area of nationally historic significance.

Explanation of the request:
The project would provide for the continuation of construction of the Eastern Shore Trail in Baldwin County. This portion of the trail would follow US Highway 98 for approximately 1.85 miles from Fish River Bride to Pleasant View Lane. The project is intended to enhance and improve the Eastern Shore Trail by providing new transportation alternatives to communities, as well as enhance existing non-motorized transportation infrastructure.

Explanation of the request:
The project would redevelop the K-1 Center in Fairhope, Alabama for use by the Hatch Program. The Hatch Program provides Baldwin County’s new and existing startups with a place to develop their products and grow as a company. The K-1 Center would provide the Program with much needed additional space.
